Kaizen, A Culture of Change

In the mid-1990s, we were expanding like crazy and we knew that we couldn’t sustain that growth in our existing facilities for long. We would have to build a new building every two years to keep up with growth. Something had to be done.

Looking hard at our manufacturing process, we searched for ways to bring more efficiency to our operations. We were searching for a transformation of our culture. We looked into the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) process, an internationally recognized measure of quality in manufacturing and customer service, as a way to improve the quality of our manufacturing.

In 1996, we became the first U.S. commercial playground equipment manufacturer to become ISO 9001 certified, meeting an internationally recognized standard for high quality. Two years later, we earned ISO 14001 certification, becoming North America’s first playground manufacturer to meet rigorous standards of implementing an Environmental Management System intended to improve environmental performance.
