Different, from the Very Beginning
Landscape Structures was founded in 1971 by Steve and Barb King (1947-2008). Steve is a landscape architect with a keen eye for beautiful aesthetics and functionality. Steve also created the concept of “continuous play” and was the first to interconnect play events including slides, climbers, horizontal ladders and more. The continuous play concept allowed him to create more play value in a smaller space, and encourage more social interaction and skill development among children. Barb was educated as a home economist with a talent for organization and the ability to plan, coordinate and execute multiple tasks. Their complementary styles and backgrounds proved to be the right combination as they turned a great idea into a successful business. Now, more than 50 years later, the company is a global leader in the commercial playground industry with more than 500 employees, more than 600,000 square feet of manufacturing space and playground consultants across the world.
Independent, Employee-Owned
Landscape Structures is one of the few remaining independently-owned businesses in the playground industry. Since 2004, we have been employee-owned (ESOP), and each and every employee takes their role as an employee-owner seriously. Our workplace is casual, collaborative and friendly, and our mission to enhance the lives of children through play while respecting the environment is seen throughout the organization.
