We're proud to lead the way in promoting healthy lifestyles for children and families, a cleaner environment and strong communities. We are certified to both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards, which help ensure that all of our products are safe for children and the environment, and that our equipment is consistently manufactured to the highest-quality standards. In our effort to create the most innovative and fun play equipment, we never compromise on our commitment to manufacturing play products that are safe for children as well as the environment.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

ISO certification logo

ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization that develops standards covering almost all aspects of technology, management and manufacturing. The ISO 9001:2015 standard and the ISO 14001:2015 standard provide guidelines for establishing our quality and environmental programs.

We received our ISO 9001 certification in 1996, making us the first U.S. commercial playground equipment manufacturer to achieve this standard. In 1998, we were certified to ISO 14001 as the first U.S. playground equipment manufacturer and seventh company in the state of Minnesota to achieve the highest standard for conservation and recycling process.

We are in compliance with the latest versions of both the 9001 and 14001 standards for both our play and shade divisions:

International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA™)

IPEMA logo

Landscape Structures is a member in good standing of IPEMA, the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association. IPEMA is a member-driven international trade organization that represents and promotes an open market for manufacturers of play equipment.

In the interest of public safety, IPEMA provides Third Party Product Certification Service whereby a designated independent laboratory, TÜV SÜD America Inc. (TÜV), validates an equipment manufacturer’s certification of conformance to the standards referenced below.

Consumer Product Safety Commission

CPSC logo

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent federal regulatory agency formed in 1972 with a mission to protect the public through education, safety standards activities, regulation and enforcement. The CPSC's Public Playground Safety Handbook was first published in 1981 and most recently published in 2010. It provides recommendations for designing, constructing, operating and maintaining public playgrounds.

Additionally, we meet or exceed the CPSC's Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008. The CPSIA specifies safe limits on the maximum allowable amount of lead in paints, coatings and other materials used on children's products, and sets limits on certain heavy metals and six different phthalates (plasticizers used to make vinyl and other plastics soft and flexible) used in certain toys and childcare products..

ASTM International

ASTM logo

ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials, is an international standard organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems and services. In 1993, the ASTM published “Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specifications for Playground Equipment for Public Use," designation F1487-93. ASTM is more technical than the CPSC. ASTM revised its old standard and published new standards in 1995, 1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2017, and again in 2021.

The use zone and fall height requirements included on this website are shown to ASTM standards. The requirements for other standards may be different. According to the CSA, playground maintenance and inspection is a continuous and integral part of budgetary costs. The cost of inspection and maintenance shall be considered and incorporated into the budget at the time of design, purchase of equipment and installation (11.1.1 Budgeting).

Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group)

CSA logo

Canadian Standards Association (operating as "CSA Group") is a not-for-profit, nonstatutory, voluntary membership association engaged in standards development and certification activities. In 1990, CSA published CSA Z614, "Children's playground equipment and surfacing" which provides requirements for public-use playground equipment intended for use by children aged 18 months to 12 years. The standard was revised and republished in 1998, 2003, 2007, 2014 and 2020.

Nearly all equipment developed by Landscape Structures is certified to meet CAN/CSA Z614-20, the Children’s Playspaces and Equipment Standard, through IPEMA.

European Committee for Standardization

CEN logo

The CEN developed the European Standard for Playground Equipment, EN 1176, which specifies safety requirements for permanently installed playground equipment.

Products covered under the scope of the Standard are certified to ASTM F1487, Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public Use and Canadian Standards Association (CS) Standard CAN/CSAZ614, Children’s Playspaces and Equipment; or both, except as noted.

Virtually all of the products displayed on this website have been certified to be in conformance with the European Standard EN 1176, Parts 1-6 and 11. TUV Product Service, Danvers, Mass., is the certifying engineering agency for Landscape Structures’ products.
