This custom playspace in Carpinteria, California, represents a Chumash village that once would have stood on the California Channel Islands prior to European exploration. Here, kids ages 5 to 12 can explore history along with local wildlife. Realistic rocks feature rock paintings, and another is encrusted with tactile sea creatures that live in tide pools. Concrete replicas of intricately constructed huts dot the shore, next to a Tomol—a traditional plank boat—nearby for "navigating the sea." Two PlayBooster® slides offer a fun way for kids to enter this creative scene that also features a sunning seal, a pair of jumping dolphins and a majestic bald eagle.
