Named after the Canadian Tire Corporation’s founding family, the Muriel and A.J. Billes Family Playground is a part of the Jumpstart Charity initiative to install an inclusive playground in every province and territory in Canada. The Barrie, Ontario playground is the largest yet to be built by Jumpstart, and the site was chosen due to the Canadian Tire family’s deep roots in Simcoe County. Shaped like a giant red triangle to celebrate the Canadian Tire logo, the playground is an expansive collection of play opportunities for children aged 2-to-12. Keeping with the Canadian Tire theme, a custom “100”-shaped structure doubles as a wall- and net-climbing feature and recognizes the 100th anniversary of Canadian Tire.

As far as playground design goes, this site is filled with innovation. Ramp-connected PlayBooster® decks with angular Vibe roofs offer a tour of sensory panels, slides, climbers and more for children aged 5-to-12. A Hedra® Scout entices younger children ages 2-to-5 with its compact age-appropriate play options. Since the charity’s mission is to create equality in sports and recreation, the playground is fully inclusive, with extensive ramp access to play features, bright red safety surfacing, and unlimited options for children of all abilities. The inclusive We-Go-Swing®, We-Go-Round®, We-Saw™, and the Assisted ZipKrooz® are just a few of the playground attractions that are made with mobility device users and visitors with physical disabilities in mind. Sensory play options like Rhapsody® outdoor musical instruments complete the spectrum of exploratory options at this one-of-a-kind playground.
